New York Through My Son's Eyes

Sorry to have disappeared for a few days.  I do try to blog Tuesday through Friday but the last week has been a tad crazy.  Saturday my mother and stepfather came to town, Sunday was my son's birthday party which was followed by his having a friend over for a sleepover. Then Monday was my son's real birthday and I took him and his friend to Disneyland.  For some strange reason I thought it might be possible to leave Disney at a reasonably early hour but it turns out that when you're at the park with an eleven and a twelve year old "early" takes on a new definition.  From what I can tell "early" in that context means that you don't quite stay until they make the closing announcements.

Then Tuesday morning my son and I got on a plane and flew to New York.

So yes, I've been busy.

My son hasn't been to New York since he was four years old and it has been fun seeing his reaction to everything.  He was totally blown away by Times Square.  He's never been to Vegas so the lights, flash and action of that little area of NY were completely new for him.  He was totally amused by the little touristy shops.  "Look mom," he said, dragging me into one store that was filled with I heart NY  t-shirts and Statue of Liberty hats, "check at all this stuff that makes you look like you don't live here!  Nobody who lived here would get these things, would they?"  I agreed that they wouldn't and that tickled him all the more.  He grabbed a giant pencil with the Statue of Liberty at the end of it.  "Let's buy this, wave it around and see if we can convince anyone that we're locals."

I managed to talk him out of that social experiment but he wasn't disappointed. There were too many other things to do and see as well.  We went to the giant Toys R Us ("Our Toys R Us seems so cheap now!") we went to the M&M store, we went to FAO Schwartz where he danced on their famous piano.  We stopped in a few bookstores and the like.  Oh, and did I mention that we did all this in the rain?  The weather didn't deter us one bit.  It was all in all a fun day.

Today we're off to the Natural History Museum where we'll meet up with my friend's two sons (the eldest is my son's age).  I will TRY to blog tomorrow and I'll definitely tweet and post updates on Facebook.

Who knows, maybe tomorrow we'll find a local with a giant Statue Of Liberty pencil.

ABOUT KYRA DAVIS

I'm the internationally published author of the Sophie Katz mystery series, and So Much For My Happy Ending. My first Erotic Fiction Trilogy will be released in January 2013.

Aside from that, I'm a single mom; I'm addicted to coffee and True Blood (the show, not the drink). I'm happy with who I am yet I’m always striving to be better; I have more bad hair days than good ones, I love a challenge but I am not fearless, I’m….well…just me.
