How Can You Not Love This?

So a few hours ago I was reading an online New York Times article about the whole polygamist sect raid in Texas when I noted that in the far right corner of the NYT webpage was a link to an article titled "Possible Nazi Theme Of Grand Prix's Boss's Orgy Draws Calls To Quit."

Well really, how can you not click that link?

So here's the deal: A tabloid got it's hands on a web video featuring Max Mosley, the overseer of the grand prix, being naughty. And when I say naughty what I mean is he was engaged in a "sadomasochistic orgy with five prostitutes in a London sex dungeon."

Now tell me that doesn't sound like something Dena would tell Sophie about in one of my novels. Furthermore, Dena wouldn't have seen a problem with any of it and apparently neither do the Europeans. What they do have a problem with is that, while in the midst of his sexual role playing, Mosley adopted a German accent, saying things like "She needs more of ze punishment!" See, this wasn't just a normal, every day depraved sadomasochistic orgy. Oh no, this was, according to The News Of The World, "a depraved Nazi sadomasochistic orgy."

I swear to God, I'm not making this up and to that end I don't want to ever read another Amazon review claiming that any of my fictional scenarios are too bizarre or silly to be real. This story should put that argument to rest.

Anyhoo, there are now lots of people who want him to resign: high ranking members of the Federation Internationale de L'Automobile, various Jewish groups and our own beloved AAA. Mosely has admitted to everything but the Nazi part which was a fairly safe way for him to go since the Nazi part is the only thing that's going to get him fired.

As a general rule, I'm not a big fan of Nazis but in this case I must admit that Mosley's antics put a smile on my face. I just wish I had thought of it first. I really would have loved to incorporate that scene into a book.

    Dear Ms. Davis,

You have revived my hope in women writers. I had quite given up on a woman ever being able to do even an ok job at writing compellingly, but you have surpassed all expectations. I'm young and in college and all i ever do is read boring text book drab, so i go to the library to find books that move me on the first page. if i don't LOVE it and feel the absolute irresistible need to turn to page two i reshelve the book. (despite all the "no reshelving" policies librarys have these days.)

i was drawn to "sex, murder and a double latte" because of the bright pink cover. I thought the title was kinda long, but hey, i was desperate. BUT I SAY! after the first sentence i was hooked, kinda like a drug. I don't know what did it, the modern tone without sacrificing good gramme? The fact that it didn't start out pompously? the descriptions? The quote of a non-existent book? the point is i couldn't put it down. i had to be pried away from it.

But the biggest wow, is that i didn't skip. ANYTHING. i didn't have to. you carried my interest, page after page, without "doing like dickens" or any other freak show people have to read for school. You are good writing.

The last time i felt so enthralled over a book it was "The Firm".

So with super high expectations, yesterday i started your second book. this time, i was gonna give you two pages for a trial. and AGAIN.

YOU DID IT A SECOND TIME. You grabbed me in sentence one, OF THE INTRODUCTION.

I've never been able to tell an author how much i loved their work.

and this is all sporadic and awful because i am a big fan. I go into bookstores and turn your book face out. I leave your books on the tables so people will pick em up and read em. I'm so excited about your work i feel the need to throw a party.

thank god for Pink dust covers.

and if the world does end in august I think i can die happy. :D.

    -Lillian.

ps. I'm a mixed girl too. I'm one quarter Jewish one quarter Italian and something that makes me black. i totally identify with Sophie's hair, and I'm so glad to know I'm not the only freaky wig out there.

Well what a fabulous compliment! Thank you! And THANK YOU for facing my books out! I swear, book sales are like every other kind of sales: it's all about positioning ;)

ABOUT KYRA DAVIS

I'm the internationally published author of the Sophie Katz mystery series, and So Much For My Happy Ending. My first Erotic Fiction Trilogy will be released in January 2013.

Aside from that, I'm a single mom; I'm addicted to coffee and True Blood (the show, not the drink). I'm happy with who I am yet I’m always striving to be better; I have more bad hair days than good ones, I love a challenge but I am not fearless, I’m….well…just me.
