This Girl Knows How To Move!

Do you know anyone who likes moving? Probably not, although personally I don’t have a big problem with it. The reason I approach this task with hope rather than dread is that each time I move I’m sure this will be the home in which I become an organized person. My place will be neat and tidy, I will have dinner parties on a whim and I will not stress out when guests pop by unexpectedly because my home will be in perfect order.

That’s never happened for me. Maybe it’s because I don’t know HOW to move or HOW to be organized. There really is a right and a wrong way, it’s just that I’ve never learned it. Of course I could go out and buy one of those non-fiction how-to books. Those are always really fun to read, kind of like the instruction manual for my camcorder (which I’ve had for seven years and still refuse to crack open).

But now I think I’ve found my answer. Sara Rosett’s book, Moving Is Murder. Yes, it’s a mystery. Yes, it’s chick-litish in a Mom-litish kind of way. And yes, it’s a fun read, but here’s what makes it really special. Every chapter contains a useful tip on how to move efficiently! I first became aware of this book when reading a Kirkus review (this is another book Kirkus liked…two in one year, it’s a miracle!). Anyway, Kirkus said this of Rosett's novel:

A cozy debut that'll help you get organized and provide entertainment in your newfound spare time.

That pretty much sums it up. It’s a how-to-book inside a thoroughly entertaining novel. I’m sure some of you are familiar with the Goldy Bear Culinary Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson; you know the mysteries that also contain recipes for cookies and chocolate tortes and the like. Well this is in the same vein except it won’t make you fat.

Furthermore Sara Rosett truly is an expert mover. As a wife of an Air Force pilot she has moved 10 TIMES! I mean damn!!! She actually wrote a piece for Chicken Soup for the Military Wife’s Soul and while I haven’t read it a military-wife-friend of mine told me she found the essay to be both comforting and inspiring.

Anyway, if you want to learn how to be good at what many of us disorganized people would consider to be a very tedious task while reading a book that is anything but tedious Moving Is Murder is the way to go. And if you have time to check out her blog you’ll see that she provides her readers with lots of useful links (particularly for aspiring and published authors).

So that's what I've been reading. I have lots more to tell you about my life but it’ll have to wait to the weekend. Bear with me?

ABOUT KYRA DAVIS

I'm the internationally published author of the Sophie Katz mystery series, and So Much For My Happy Ending. My first Erotic Fiction Trilogy will be released in January 2013.

Aside from that, I'm a single mom; I'm addicted to coffee and True Blood (the show, not the drink). I'm happy with who I am yet I’m always striving to be better; I have more bad hair days than good ones, I love a challenge but I am not fearless, I’m….well…just me.
