KYRA DAVIS: What To Think Of 2012

2012 has just started and already I'm overwhelmed. I'm rushing to finish my 7th book which will also be my first self-published novel. I have a couple of scripts in the works that I may have a chance to pitch in the very near future as well as a few other novels (which I hope to publish the old fashioned way) that I need to flesh out and hand over to my new agent who is waiting not-so patiently for them. I've also started a new relationship. It feels odd to say the word, "relationship." I haven't used that word to describe any of my romantic dalliances for quite some time. I've said, "We're dating." or "We've been hanging out." But a relationship? Just saying the word gives me minor heart palpitations...although it makes me smile too.

In fact that's how I'm reacting to pretty much everything these days: I smile through my heart palpitations. Everything seems scary, exciting, new and fun. The uncertainty keeps me up at night but the opportunities give me enough adrenaline to keep me going (well, that and a lot of caffeine). I can't wait to see how things work out and yet I'm terrified to know. Will this be the year I'm able to take my writing career to new heights or will I need to find another day job? Will this relationship work out or will I end up swearing off commitments for eternity? I realize there's probably a middle ground that I'm ignoring but this feels like it's going to be a year of extremes.

All I'm sure of is that 2012 is going to be a big one for me...I just don't know what that means.

What about you? Do you have any hopes, dreams and/or fears for the this year? Will it be a year of prosperity or the year of the Mayan apocalypse? So many possibilities!

Kyra, will your book be available in regular book format (through, like a lulu.com or something like that), or is it only going to be available in an e-book format? I love the Sophie books, but am a BOOK reader and do not have a kindle/nook/etc. and don't plan on getting one.

As for 2012, I think that it is going to be a great year. I think that the "end" is really just going to be a new beginning. Perhaps a cosmic rebalance or something. AND, if I am wrong and it is doomsday, then I'm going to enjoy life between now and then. :)

Yes, I plan to create an actual book as well as an ebook but you're going to have to bear with me a bit here since I'm still figuring this thing out. I'm guessing that it will take me longer to get the manuscript in book form and ready to sell through Lulu than it will for me to upload an ebook. If sales are strong I hope to hire Gabra Zackman to make an audio recording (she's done all the other audio books) but that REALLY will take some extra time. So we're doing this piece-meal.

I really hope you're right about 2012. I'm just insanely unsure about it but I have no more reason to believe it'll be bad than I do to believe it'll be great, so I'm holding out for great :-)

Thanks for the answer! I realized, later, that I could probably get an iBook on my iPhone -- that just seems so small and fiddly. We'll be getting an iPad, though, soon, so I can always read your book that way if need be!

I am also unsure about 2012, but have to believe that it will be a good thing. I read a book a long time ago, Cosmic Trigger by Robert Anton Wilson, that talked about 2012 at the very end. It's been a while, so I am paraphrasing, but he wrote about the fact that information is doubling at faster and faster rates and that by December 2012, information will be doubling so quickly that THAT will create some kind of "cosmic trigger" and awaken a new reality for us. So, yes, it could be considered an "end", but all ends are really just new beginnings. RIGHT??? :)
