Mail Box Money

Years ago...if I were going to try to be precise I'd say about seven years ago, PG&E made a mistake on my bill. They didn't charge me as much as they were supposed to and I honestly didn't notice. I did notice when I got a huge bill from them charging me back fees for all the money I apparently owed them thanks to their mistake. I tried to fight it but to no avail. Eventually I settled on paying it back in installments; installments that went on longer than they were supposed to until I noticed that and brought it to their attention at which point the installments stopped. Like I said, that was a while ago and it's not something I dwell on. I certainly didn't know that PG&E had made similar mistakes with many of their other customers around the same time. What I do know as of two days ago is that I got a letter in the mail from PG&E explaining that they were settling a class action law suit for screwing up their customers billing and since I was one of those customers they were giving me a check for SEVEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTY DOLLARS!

I love class action law suits. It's like playing the lottery without having to buy a ticket. Maybe you'll end up with a free week at 24 Fitness thanks to the time they overcharged you five dollars when you canceled your membership five years ago. Maybe it's a twenty percent off coupon for Hold Everything because they asked for your address when you tried to make an eight dollar credit card purchase. Who knows? It's the prize at the bottom of the cereal box: you know it'll probably suck and you did kind of buy it by paying the inflated price for the cereal but you don't feel like you bought it. You feel like you got something for nothing which means that the sucky plastic toy is really a very special thing. Something to cherish for at least fifteen minutes.

And then, every once in a blue moon the prize is a check for almost eight hundred dollars. Granted, it doesn't happen very often but when it does you can't help but feel giddy. This really is so much better than that Hold Everything coupon!

ABOUT KYRA DAVIS

I'm the internationally published author of the Sophie Katz mystery series, and So Much For My Happy Ending. My first Erotic Fiction Trilogy will be released in January 2013.

Aside from that, I'm a single mom; I'm addicted to coffee and True Blood (the show, not the drink). I'm happy with who I am yet I’m always striving to be better; I have more bad hair days than good ones, I love a challenge but I am not fearless, I’m….well…just me.
