In high school and college I took French because for some stupid reason French was the one and only language they tried (and failed) to teach us in elementary school and I wanted to continue with it. Now I look at some of the papers I wrote in French for my college classes and I can't read them! Yes, that's right; I can't read my own work. Of course there aren't a lot of people speaking French around the Bay Area so the opportunities to practice are few and far between. Not so with Spanish...or Cantonese for that matter but I'm not going to go there.

Oh and thanks for the tips about Olvera and the Garmet District. I'll check those out when I'm down there next month!kyradavishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11564245025938264405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10992888.post-1137460070164345072006-01-16T17:07:00.000-08:002006-01-16T17:07:00.000-08:00So glad you wrote about this, as I'm a from Los An...So glad you wrote about this, as I'm a from Los Angeles, born and raised. In some parts of LA, you feel like you're in Mexico..ever been to Olvera St or the Garmet District? There are some great Museums that show Latino art work, and, I agree the food is wonderful...oh, I'm getting homesick! Good luck on learning Spanish. One thing I've learned is that you have to speak it every day or you will lose it. I recently went to Mexico, and really improved because I was constantly speaking it. My husband and I have family living in Mexico, so we got to explore so many places. Sad thing...Dad never really spoke Spanish to us as kids, but I've decided to master the language and I'm doing well.Priscillahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17839253747297595276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10992888.post-1137268575660202822006-01-14T11:56:00.000-08:002006-01-14T11:56:00.000-08:00I have read Alisa’s Houston blog posts. I’m not sure exactly when he was there but it would have had to of been sometime before the 1980s so for Black man to say that he was comfortable in a major Southern city during that time is really a major compliment. I’ll have to head on down there one of these days.kyradavishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11564245025938264405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10992888.post-1137023014792409072006-01-11T15:43:00.000-08:002006-01-11T15:43:00.000-08:00I love it!
